PLASTER,
RENDER & STUCCO
Plaster, Render & Stucco
Internal plasters and external renders are not only a functional covering for masonry, brickwork and timber framed buildings but also decorative; particularly in the case of stucco work and pargetting. Plaster was often protected and decorated in both vernacular and higher status properties with distempers, limewashes and paints. We therefore take a holistic approach when deciding on the appropriate methods, mortar mixes and level of conservation required which includes the plaster substrate and coatings.
As well as the long-term preservation, we will always aim to survey, record, secure and save existing plasterwork and match any repairs to the original. We are able to identify and provide solutions to the causes of deterioration and decay and for every project, building and object an individual and unique treatment plan is developed and agreed based on initial investigation, analysis, research and initial trials prior to any work commencing.
We are able to undertake a variety of different projects ranging from small lime plaster repairs and casting ornamental gypsum plaster to complete lath and plaster ceiling stabilisation.
The consolidation and stabilisation of existing plasterwork can include surface consolidation, grouting, stainless steel supports, pinning and fills whilst larger losses can be prepped and plastered using traditional 3 coat lime plasters. Losses to decoration can be run, cast or hand modelled to restore the wall's or ceiling's overall aesthetic.
Along with cleaning, the conservation of plaster and render often involves the removal of failed or inappropriate paint systems and surface coatings as well as unsuitable previous repairs which can be disfiguring and cause deterioration to the underlying plaster. Once removed they can then be recoated with a protective or decorative limewash, distemper or sheltercoat.
